If your dog smells a rattlesnake chances are he or she may be intrigued to investigate.

Several rattlesnake avoidance trainings in Tucson are teaching dogs to stop their curiosity and head the other direction.

"We teach them…what the smell is by having some scent rags out. That smell like rattlesnakes. Then we bring them up to a real life snake when they go to investigate the snake. We buzz them with a collar." said trainer Steven Buhrke.

Buhrke with Arizona Rattlesnake Avoidance trains dogs of all sizes to avoid rattlesnakes. He uses live devenomized rattlesnakes that he captures himself in his back yard.

"The snakes can kill a dog. It’s also very expensive to take them to a vet," said Buhrke.

Rattlesnake avoidance classes vary in price from $85 to over $100. Buhrke hosted a training at one Tucson woman’s home on Saturday.
